Las Vegas recently played host to a remarkable gathering of dedicated Jewish women from across the nation, as the 2024 You Can Bet On Hadassah National Conference (#BetonHadassah) unfolded with a spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose. This year’s conference, a vibrant blend of inspiration and innovation, served as a powerful testament to our Hadassah community’s strength and resilience. As Evolve women, those of us under the age of 55, we find ourselves at a pivotal point where we can effect significant change, both within our families and the broader community. This conference was a compelling reminder of that potential.

The conference was graced by a diverse lineup of speakers, who brought their unique perspectives and expertise to the fore. Keynoter Montana Tucker captivated the audience with a deeply moving and inspirational message. Tucker’s words resonated with many participants, reminding us of the importance of perseverance and the power of a united community. Her speech set the tone for an event that was as emotionally uplifting as it was intellectually stimulating.

Adding to the conference’s momentum, Hadassah National President Carol Ann Schwartz delivered an empowering address, emphasizing the enduring strength and resilience that characterize the Hadassah community. Her words were a stirring call to action, urging us to continue our vital work with renewed vigor and commitment. She reminded us that our collective efforts are the backbone of Hadassah’s impact, particularly in these challenging times.

For me, as a social worker, a highlight of the conference was the presentation by Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) Director General Prof. Yoram Weiss. Sharing invaluable insights into the crucial role social work plays within HMO, Prof. Weiss described the organization’s remarkable ability to innovate amid ongoing challenges. His discussion of HMO’s response to the ongoing war was both sobering and inspiring, showcasing Hadassah’s commitment to excellence and compassion even in the face of adversity.

Prof. Weiss also spoke about the incredible work being done through the new Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus. The construction of this state-of-the-art facility was made possible by the generosity of the Gandel family of Australia and other Hadassah donors around the world. Fundraising efforts are ongoing to ensure the entire center becomes fully operational, a testament to Hadassah’s dedication to providing top-tier medical care and rehabilitation services.

The presence of Dalia Itzik, chair of the HMO Board of Directors and former Speaker of the Knesset (Israel’s parliament), further enriched the conference. Itzik spoke eloquently about Hadassah’s world-class hospitals’ leadership in medical innovation. Her message was one of hope and determination, underscoring the transformative impact of Hadassah’s work. Itzik’s reflections on the hospitals’ pioneering efforts in medical research and patient care were a testament to the organization’s forward-thinking approach and its dedication to improving lives.

One of the most poignant moments of the conference was meeting an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier who had been critically wounded in the war and received life-saving care at Hadassah. His presence was a powerful reminder of our support’s tangible impact. Hearing his story brought home the reality of the challenges faced by so many and the critical role Hadassah plays in providing top-tier medical care. It was a moment that underscored the profound importance of our mission and left many of us deeply moved.

The conference was not only about inspiring speeches and profound stories; it was also about the sense of community and connection that permeated the event. It was incredibly heartwarming to be surrounded by like-minded Jewish women who share a common purpose. The power of friendship and shared goals was palpable, and it reinforced the notion that we are stronger together. The bonds formed and strengthened at this conference will undoubtedly fortify our efforts as we move forward.

A particularly memorable aspect of the conference was the Keeper of the Gate ceremony. This ceremony, which honors those who have

shown exceptional commitment to Hadassah, both financially and philanthropically, was a deeply moving experience.

National Hadassah President Schwartz presented beautiful pins to the honorees, including myself, and it was a moment of immense pride and gratitude. As an Evolve Keeper of the Gate and Evolve Chair for Long Beach /Orange County, Calif., I felt honored to be recognized for my contributions. The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the difference each of us can make through our dedication and hard work.

For those seeking true sisterhood and an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause, Hadassah offers a unique and fulfilling path. The Conference was a testament to the strength, resilience and innovation that define our community. It was a celebration of what we have achieved and a rallying cry for what we can accomplish together in the future. If you’re looking to be part of something larger than yourself, to connect with passionate and driven women and to make a real difference, Evolve Hadassah welcomes you with open arms. Join us and be a part of this extraordinary journey. Just ask us how.
