What Occupied Territory?

A Convoy of Trucks Carrying Humanitarian Aid in Gaza (Times of Israel, 2024)

Recently, the United Nations (UN) adopted a resolution that condemns the nation of Israel as an inherently oppressive, colonial, enterprise and “…demands that Israel ‘brings to an end without delay its unlawful presence’ in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”

Unfortunately, the UN’s resolution is predicated upon antisemitism and fraught with inaccuracy.

Firstly, the UN’s recent resolution falsely misconstrues the nation of Israel is a settler-colonial state.

However, the Jewish people have inhabited the Land of Israel for centuries and unequivocally possess a historic, indigenous, connection to Israel’s territories. In fact, in ~1000 B.C., Jews actually erected the first constitutional monarchy in the land that would one day become Mandatory Palestine and, ultimately, the state of Israel.

Furthermore, the Jewish people have constantly maintained their vibrant and unique relationship with the Land of Israel for over 4000 years. For example, in 1936, nearly a decade before the state of Israel was created, almost 30% of Mandatory Palestine was Jewish, and, in 1947, immediately before the state of Israel was consolidated, 32% of the total population of Mandatory Palestine was Jewish.

Secondly, the state of Israel has not ‘occupied’ any Palestinian territory in almost two decades. Rather, in 2005, the state of Israel dismantled all of its settlements, evacuated every Israeli, civilian and military personnel alike, and completely disengaged from Gaza, in order to “…increase security for residents of Israel, relieve pressure on the IDF and reduce friction between Israelis and Palestinians.”

In truth, the state of Israel simply secures and enforces its own respective borders, which is a fundamental right of every state, as well as one of the foundational tenets and conventions of the modern international political system. Additionally, the state of Israel has consistently reiterated that it has been forced to secure its borders so emphatically, specifically because of the constant attacks and savage violence that the Israeli people have been compelled to endure at the hands of Palestinian terrorist organizations, such as Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

In fact, even post-October 7th, the state of Israel has remained overwhelmingly concerned with liberating the hostages that Hamas captured and has only entered into the Palestinian territories in an effort to liberate Hamas’ hostages and victims. Verily, the Prime Minister of Israel himself, Benjamin Netanyahu, has explicitly stated that, in spite of Hamas’ horrific attacks on October 7th, the state of Israel is absolutely “…willing to pause fighting in Gaza in order to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas…”

Sadly, although the United Nations was created specifically in order to safeguard “…the principle of equal rights and self-determination of [all] peoples…” and to protect “…fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion…”, it is evident that, throughout the modern era, the UN has been transformed into a vehicle for overt antisemitism, Jew-hatred, and anti-Israeli propaganda.

In fact, the United Nations was recently labeled the “…most antisemitic body on the planet…”, as a result of its constant, baseless, campaign against the state of Israel post-October 7th, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has been unequivocally exposed by UN Watch as complicit in Hamas’ October 7th massacre in Israel.

Moreover, it is clear that the UN is determined to indict the nation of Israel as an occupying force and settler-colonial state regardless of any evidence, facts, or truth, and that the UN will not abandon its fell crusade until it has acceptably damaged and destabilized the Jewish nation.

Therefore, it is, unfortunately, readily apparent that, in order to endure throughout the modern era and protect the countless innocent people who call Israel their home, the state of Israel must not merely endeavour to stymy the constant torrent of violence and death that issues forth from Palestine into Israel, or simply defend itself against its Arab neighbours and the paramilitary organizations that constantly strive to slaughter its citizens.

Rather, unlike any other state, the nation of Israel must somehow defend its people and society against the United Nations itself.
