Who’s in Bigger Trouble? The Donald or the Dems?
You would never know it from reading the papers here or watching CNN, but Donald Trump is not the only political figure in the crosshairs here. And he is being targeted. There is little doubt of that any longer.
Andrew McCarthy, former Assistant U.S. Attorney who led the prosecution in the first World Trade Center bombing that convicted the Blind Sheik characterizes Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s impaneling of a grand jury as not a criminal proceeding, but “step one in impeachment”.
But perhaps in greater peril is the entire Democrat Party. Aside from pinning their entire future on utter opposition to Donald Trump and complete devotion to the notion that some proof will emerge that the Putin forces conspired with the Trump forces to deny Hillary Clinton the Presidency, they represent nothing.
Dubious Future: Elizabeth Warren and Kamal Harris
They have failed to win a single “special” election in an open district. The Democrat Governor of West Virginia just switched parties. Their future presidential hopefuls are Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who claimed she was 1/32 Native American to gain an “affirmative advantage” for a faculty position at Harvard Law School and certainly represents the left edge of a left wing party. Sen Kamala Harris, former Attorney General in California, who tweets things like “To the polluters and army of science-deniers trying to drag us backward, I say, we won’t go back to poisoning our water and our land.”
I know poisoning our water and our land is a very popular mantra here amongst us rednecks and alt-right folks here in Texas.
Chicago and San Francisco Sue The Department of Justice?
Democrat Mayor of San Francisco Ed Lee and his $289,000 salary are joining Barack Obama’s former Chief of Staff and now Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emmanuel, in a lawsuit against the Department of Justice over their “sanctuary” city policies.
Remember: Obama and Emmanuel sued a state, Arizona, because the state believed it required more strict immigration controls because the Federal government was not enforcing the borders. Eric Holder, the former Columbia University SDS member, Fast and Furious gun smuggler, and Obama Attorney General, argued that “seeking to address the [illegal immigrant] issue through a patchwork of state laws will only create more problems than it solves.”
Jeff Sessions – “undersiege” just a week or so ago – released a response that was intended to refocus the Mayor of Chicago on his shameful record of murderous weekends in his city that have earned it the nickname of “Chiraq”. His language was unambiguous.
No amount of federal taxpayer dollars will help a city that refuses to help its own residents.
The Mayor complains that the federal government’s focus on enforcing the law would require a ‘reordering of law enforcement practice in Chicago’. But that’s just what Chicago needs: a recommitment to the rule of law and to policies that roll back the culture of lawlessness that has beset the city.
Oh, yes, General Sessions! I’m almost ready to forgive you for that recusal.
It is about time that somebody slapped some reality into Chicago: in 2017, there have 2,260 people who have been shot so far this year. In a city that has some of the most restrictive handgun laws in the nation. Total homicides: 421 people. Nobody talks about it. Barack Obama never talked about it. For eight years. It was a national disgrace.
Liberal Democrats have been running the City of Chicago for 84 years and the corruption permeates every ward and every Alderman that represents each ward.
Liberal Democrats scream about “income inequality”: nowhere does that exist with clearer lines of demarcation than in Chicago – the far South and Westside, abundantly African American, nearly a “no go zone” for police, so fearful are they of the gang violence there. The Magnificent Mile, The Gold Coast, home to some of the greatest shopping and dining in the world – a world away from the far South, roughly 12 miles.
The Developing Tragedy of Debbie Wasserman Schultz
And what about the former Chairwoman of the party, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who presided over the primary contest between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders?
Debbie, Debbie, Debbie.
Of course, we’ve known for some time that the primary contest was never in doubt and it was always comfortably ensconced in Hillary’s hands.
But facts are emerging now that are far more disturbing and which raise very unsettling questions. Facts, I would argue, that hint of far greater wrongdoing than anything suggested by the fatuous questions posed by Al Franken or Richard Blumenthal or Angus King (my goodness, how did the people of Maine wake up and elect Angus King AND Susan Collins? You deserve whom you elect, I suppose.) in the Putin Fishing Expedition (BTW – did you see that lunatic ex-KGB dude fish diving in icy Siberian waters because casting with a pole shirtless was not manly enough for him??).
Debbie had four Pakistani IT specialists working for her: Imran Iwan; his wife, Hina Alvi; and his two brothers, Abid and Jamal. It is reported they may have worked for as many as 30 Congressmen, all Democrats. They did not possess security clearances and do not appear to have been seriously vetted in any way. At one point, they are alleged to have brought in someone to whom they owed money, Rao Abbas, who may not have had any qualifications to work IT. He was paid $250,000 and was one his clients was Rep.Ted Deutsch, who is stonewalling the return of Rep Devin Nunes to chair the House Intelligence Committee.
The Awans billed Congress more than $4 million between 2004 and 2016, three to four times higher than the norm for this type of IT work. There has been no explanation for this overbilling from the 30 Congressmen, no mentions of investigations, no appointments of a Special Counsel.
In February 2016, the Awans came under suspicion by the Capitol Police for stealing and reselling government-owned computer equipment. They may also have hacked into Congressional databases they had no authorization to access. As the investigation progressed, all the Congressmen severed ties with the Awans. Except Debbie Wasserman Schultz who kept Iman on the payroll until the day he was arrested.
Debbie insists he was a victim of an anti-Muslim, right-wing smear job. A lawyer was engaged to represent Imran Awan. Chris Gowen, a longtime campaigner for Bill and Hillary Clinton, a partner in Gowen Rhodes Winograd & Silva, an occasional representative for The Clinton Global Initiative and The Clinton Foundation.
Awan was arrested for bank fraud. The tenants living in his house, an ex-Marine and his Naval officer wife, were very suspicious about the number of government-sourced computers in the house and they contacted the FBI. The hard drives appeared to have been deliberately destroyed.
Awan wired that bank money to Pakistan in January as part of a $283,000 wire transfer. Two months later, his wife and three children attempted to leave the country with more than $12,000 in cash among other things.
Awan had access to Debbie’s personal iPad and a laptop in her office that was supposedly concealed in an “unused crevice” in the Rayburn Office Building. Debbie tried to recover the laptop before it could be examined by Capitol Police whom she threatened with “consequences”.
Last Thursday, August 3, Debbie was interviewed by the Sun Sentinel, her hometown newspaper, and she did nothing to explain her single-minded dedication to the Awan family or her bizarre obstinance to cooperate with the Capitol Police.
“This was not my laptop,” was her new defense. “I have never seen that laptop. I don’t know what’s on that laptop.”
30 Democrat Congressmen, 4 Pakistani IT “specialists” without security clearance, $4 million – what could possibly go wrong?
Chris Gowen has his work cut out for him. And in a different respect so does Robert Mueller. Debbie’s excuses are lame and too inadequate to excuse even for the most die-hard Rachel Maddow viewer. Mueller has packed his staff with Clinton and Obama supporters/contributors/appointees; if the most damning charge he can bring is that the Trump Organization sold condos to Russian oligarchs as evidence of influence peddling, the eulogy for the Democrats and the Press will be complete.
