Aryeh Lazar

Why do people today have more yet are less happy?

King David writes:

“Happy are those who fear Hashem.” (Psalm 112: 1)

This sounds simple.
But today happiness has become surprisingly difficult.

Today you have:

More conveniences, more technology, more entertainment, and more possessions than earlier generations.

Yet many people feel more pressure, more stress, and less contentment.

Why?

Rabbi Aryeh Leib Zell points out something fascinating:

You live in an open world.
You see so much.

You constantly see what everyone else has:

Their vacations.
Their accomplishments.
Their homes.
Their success stories.

Your mind quietly begins thinking,

“Maybe I need these things too.”

Torah teaches you a different approach.

Not every desire that you see in front of your eyes needs to enter your heart.
You do not need everything that you see.

Jewish wisdom teaches that happiness does not begin by acquiring more.

Happiness begins by appreciating more!

When your mind runs after what you do not have, it becomes difficult to enjoy what you already do have.

What do you do?

Slow down.
Look around.
Enjoy what G-d gives you.

These may be the blessings you prayed for.

Perhaps a better way to experience life begins by appreciating what is already in front of you?

Please let us know what you think.

Please share with anyone who might enjoy or benefit from this.
