You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet! But …

Despite being scientifically inaccurate, Paolo Coelho says in his bestseller novel “The Alchemist”: the darkest hour of the night comes just before the dawn. Israel is not there yet, but it is rapidly heading towards Vantablack. And for my readers who are not chemists, this is the blackest known material. The present government is leading Israel towards the blackest black, so I regret my prediction that Israel is doomed. The revival of light is approaching.

Taylor Swift sings in this amazing performance of her song “Shake It Off”: “Just think, while you’ve been gettin’ down and out about liars. And the dirty, dirty cheats of the world. You could’ve been gettin’ down to this sick beat”. The present government is way beyond liars and cheaters, it is pure evil.

The attack that hit Israel on October 7^th 2023 by the terror organization of Hamas have traumatized Israeli society. The consequences of the resulting war on Gaza are beyond catastrophic. There is more than a clue that “something was wrong” before the terror attack. Aluf Benn asks where was the army on October 7^th 2023 eve, and the answer is very simple: protecting the only people that Smotrich-Ben-Gvir government cares of, Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Intel company detected Hamas terrorists switching to Israeli SIMs, and Netanyahu knew that.

The Israeli Jewish mentality that was engineered as “this will not happen to us”, that did not crack even after the murder of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, is now realizing that the present government is shifting Israel from democracy to dictatorship with clear, rapid and consistent actions. The death toll in Gaza (February 29^th 2024) crossed the horrific number of 30000. Israeli hostages in Gaza were killed by Israeli army, Israeli army killed 12 hostages in Kibbutz Be’eri, Kibbutz Alumim volunteer security squad kills Nova Festival massacre survivor, and Israeli tanks fired at least five times into Israel.

Internationally, the situation of Israel is deteriorating. Jews in the USA are losing their patience towards Israeli violence and occupation to Palestinians. Moody’s cut Israel’s credit rating, intensifying the economic damages that the present war just started to cause. And while most of the international community showed sympathy towards Israel after the terror attack, the odds are now shifting to major support of the Palestinian cause. In rare cases, the rejection of Israel reached disgusting and unacceptable extremes.

The government is becoming more and more violent towards Israeli citizens. Israeli police sprays protesters in Tel Aviv with sewage water, detained many of them, and put a protester in horse excrement. In the occupied territories, inspired by their government, settlers become more violent not just towards Palestinians, but even towards Israeli soldiers.

After the October 7^th 2023 terror attack by Hamas, many Jews in Israel declared that they were “disillusioned” from their left opinions. Some expressed sincere emotions but others were fake, and a few were very fake: they were never true left.

It is very dark and it will get much darker. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. This government is like an injured predator: it is bleeding and seeing its end coming. This government-coalition will not survive the next national elections, and they know it. So, it will become much more violent.

This is the great opportunity of all liberal forces in Israel: UNITE. This does not mean that all parties and movements that oppose fascist Ben-Gvir-Smotrich alliance must unite to one party. This means that some parties must unite, Labor-Meretz, Joint List, but all of them must focus on weeping off this government ASAP.

“Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past” sings Survivor Band in “Eye of The Tiger”. “You must fight just to keep them alive”. And I say, this is not enough. Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the FUTURE. WE must fight not just to keep them alive but bring them to flourish and prosper.
