Back in 2024, within a year of the October 7th attacks in Israel, I had just returned from Jerusalem where I had spent the Jewish Holiday of Passover and heard that world famous Comedian Bill Maher would be doing a book signing in NYC for his most recent book entitled “What this Comedian said will shock you.” I have always been a fan of Bill Maher and his show but it has been his steadfast advocacy for Israel (in an Entertainment Industry plagued with leftist liberals who have bashed Israel at every opportunity) that I have truly admired.

Bill Maher is an American comedian, political commentator, and television host best known for his sharp political satire and counter-cultural commentary. He currently hosts the long-running HBO talk show Real Time with Bill Maher and the podcast Club Random. Known for challenging both the political left and right, Maher frequently targets censorship, and political correctness.

Since the 7th of October, Maher has actively defended Israel’s military operations as necessary acts of defense. For instance, during an appearance on The View, he fiercely defended targeted actions against terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, arguing that the global community incorrectly objects the moment Israel chooses to actually exercise its right to self-defense. In addition, Maher presents Israel as the legitimate, historic homeland of the Jewish people, arguing that they are indigenous to the land and established a country for self-defense following the Holocaust.

Maher frequently chastises Democratic politicians for “indulging rather than correcting” younger constituents whom he describes as uneducated about Middle Eastern history and brainwashed by social media. He argues that younger generations are falsely labeling Israel an “apartheid state” or a “colonizer”.

Just last week, HBO host Bill Maher blasted Democrats on Friday, saying liberals have failed to condemn antisemitism, calling out a seething swath of hatred as Israel celebrated its 78th birthday. There is a frothing anxiousness for the literal extermination of this one group [Jews] and, Democrats, where are you?” Maher said in his “Real Time” rebuke. “If any other minority group was being talked about this way, you’d break out the kente cloth and have ten benefit concerts, but because you see that so many of your brainwashed-by-TikTok constituents now have an unfavorable view of Israel, you indulge them when you should be correcting them.” he added.

“You don’t tell your woke idiots that Israel isn’t a colonizer or an apartheid state or committing genocide and that, if you brats had to spend a week anywhere in the Middle East other than Israel, you would understand what liberalism is not.”

As I met Bill Maher, I gave him a necklace that said “Bring Them Home Now”, in honor of the hostages we lost and those who were still in captivity at the time. I thanked him for his outspoken advocacy for Israel in an ocean of pro BDS antisemites in his Industry and (even though we may not be on the same side of the political spectrum and agree on all matters), I was glad we had strong common ground when it came for fighting for Israel. May we have more people who utilize their platform to fight for what’s right on a daily basis.
