Could Israel’s Startup Nation be the key for peace with the Palestinian people?
I’m always hesitant when it comes to holding an event at a Chabad House.
I don’t know if it’s the fear of the need to conform to the orthodox nature of the place, or just the hit or miss possibility of truly connecting with the Rabbi.
Fortunately this time, it was a hit!
After Tal from Seattle, put me in touch with Dillon from LA, who put me in touch with Laura from Salt Lake City, who put me in touch with the local Chabad Rabbi, rabbi Benny (yeah, I know, the Jewish world is a small one), we were able to set up an event in a few days notice and get the ball rolling.
As soon as we arrived in town, we stopped by to introduce ourselves. There, Rabbi Benny Zippel, a warm and loving Italian Jewish male who oversees the SLC Jewish community for over 27 years, and is the go-to Rabbi of the Mormon community for biblical stuff, greeted us.
When you set up an event in a short notice, you never know who might turn out and whether it’ll be 5 people or 50, but I assured Rabbi Benny that I’ve talked in front of both audiences and whoever makes it, it’ll be a success for me.
As a speaker, you learn to judge the overall success of an event by the quantity and quality of the questions being asked by the crowd.
And this time, it wasn’t just the fact that there were a lot of great questions, there was also a question I simply love – Can Israel’s Startup Nation atmosphere bring peace to the region?
The short answer is – Yes!
For the longer answer (and my plans for after the journey ends), check this video.
